Course Overview

Our diploma in Film, TV, Fashion and Special Effects course is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed as a professional Makeup Artist and Hairstylist. This exciting and intensive course includes an Extension Special Effects course which is a requirement for those that wish to pursue a career in TV & Film. This course stresses the “hands on” approach to learning.

Classes are structured with theory discussions, power point imagery, observation of demonstrations followed by application of techniques in practical working sessions. Students will sit exams throughout the course. Individuality and creating an original working style are encouraged. By completing our curriculum along with a dedication to study and learning you will achieve a high degree of competency on completion.

Additional Information

For 2021 course kit fee includes M.A.C Cosmetics, a MYKITCO 12 piece professional brush set, GHD Platinum Straighteners and GHD Hair Dryer, Dolly Head and clamp, Curling Tongs, Hotrollers and clamps, thermal pouch/pad special effects kit and accessories. (nb:  The Kit fee may change without notice).  The school will supply industry standard makeup products including all M.A.C Cosmetics for beauty and fashion work. Hair products will also be provided for your use during training. Any day trips or guest speakers/demonstrator costs are included in your course fees including professional photographs of your body painting work and final fashion exams.

Course Requirements

In order to train on a Full Time Course at The Makeup School, you must be a New Zealand citizen, hold a New Zealand residence permit, be an Australian citizen, hold a current Australian permanent resident visa or current Australian resident return visa.

To be able to start a course at The Makeup School an acceptable/accomplished level of English is required, both written & verbal.

Once a course is commenced fees must be paid in full according to the payment option chosen.

Students participating in this course must provide a copy of their current passport, driver’s license or photo ID, at the time of the interview.

To start this course you must be 16 years and over. If under 18, this form must be completed by your legal parent or guardian.

Course Introduction Visit

If you are under 18 years of age then a guardian will need to accompany you. 
This is an opportunity to discuss our course program with you and we welcome any questions regarding your training.  At this meeting we will go through our payment plan options with you and along with explaining any Incidental Expenses will be explained.  You are then able to look around our studio and see our students in action.

Course Acceptance and Registration Payment

If accepted into the course you will notified of this. You will then need to pay your registration fee immediately in order to secure your place. An invoice will be emailed to you confirming your enrolment on this course.

Course Fee payment options


The full course fee includes a Student Kit (if applicable) and non-refundable non-transferrable Registration Fee.

All Student Kits remain the property of The Makeup School Ltd, until final payment has been made.

Course Fee, Student Kit cost, Registration Fee and payment dates are all specified in the course Acceptance Letter.

Payments must be received by The Makeup School Ltd ON OR BEFORE their due date as specified in the course Acceptance Letter. We recommend noting payment dates as a Late Payment Fee of $20.00 per day will be charged until payment is received and the student may not be allowed to attend class until payment is made.

Once the course has commenced all fees must be paid in full according to the payment option chosen. Any outstanding debt owed past the course end date will be dealt with at the discretion of the Makeup School and may incur collection costs.


If the student withdraws from the course for any reason the following applies:

• Course withdrawal 36 days or more prior to course commencement: The student will be refunded all monies paid for their course fee to date less the non-refundable Registration Fee.

• Course withdrawal 22 - 35 days prior to course commencement: The student will be refunded all monies paid for their course fee to date less a $1,000.00 Withdrawal Fee and the non-refundable Registration Fee.

• Course withdrawal 21 days or less prior to commencement: The student will be refunded all monies paid for their course fee to date less a $2,187.20 Withdrawal Fee and the non-refundable Registration Fee.

• The student will be refunded within 20 working days of the date of written confirmation of the final refund amount to the student.

• Upon evidence of extenuating circumstances The Makeup School reserves the right to refund at their complete discretion.

Student Withdrawal

If a student wishes to withdraw from the course the following applies:

Once the course is commenced, fees must be paid in full according to the payment option chosen.

In the case of any external debt recovery charges, the responsibility of these charges will lie with the student, or where the student is under 18, the responsibility will lie with the legal parent or guardian.

All refunds are made at the complete discretion of The Makeup School Ltd

Late Payment

Payments must be received by The Makeup School ON OR BEFORE their due date. All Fees not received by the due date are subject to a “ late payment penalty fee”, until payment is received, and student may be turned away from class. We recommend you deposit any funds two days prior to the due date to avoid any penalties. There will be no exceptions to this, so please make note of the due dates for your course payments.

Late payment penalty fee: $20.00 per day


All photos taken of student’s work remain the property of The Makeup School, and may be used for promotional purposes.

I understand that the withholding of relevant information or the giving of false information may result in termination of enrolment.
